2010 is the `European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion’ however as we reported earlier this week when it comes to members of the Roma and Travelling community social ‘inclusion’ seems to be at the bottom of the agenda for both the United Kingdom government and some local authorities.
As we reported on Wednesday Powys Council in Wales have rejected plans for a permanent site for Gypsies, the second occasion on which plans for a permanent home at Llanfilo near Brecon had been rejected.
At the same time we also expressed concern about a situation at Moray in Scotland where members of the Travelling community face eviction from land owned by the MOD.
Now we can reveal that Wrexham Council in Wales has also rejected plans for two potential sites for Travellers. The decision has been taken despite the fact that last year this Council identified a need for an additional 25-30 `pitches’ for traveller families.
