NEWS FROM THE MANNIN BRANCH CELTIC LEAGUE
You may recall some months ago when Peter Karran et al were admonished for asking Ministers difficult questions it happened in a sort of back to front way.
Although the Keys are just one chamber of the Tynwald it was first raised there by Rodan with Christian parroting (no offence Zac) the Speakers words at the following Tynwald.
As next week we have Rodan scheduled to sound of about ‘conduct of members’ I thought it’s probably likely that at the following Tynwald Christian will also hold forth on the same issue.
If she does of course there will be plenty of issues to highlight and perhaps she would be able to make a statement clarifying her role which I highlighted previously with DAIL and Scottish Power Insurance (see links):
It’s probably the case that her involvement post dates the scandal preoccupying the UK parliament at present but we don’t know because she won’t say.
In fact it might be a good time for Rodan and Christian to get their heads together and say that it is not really a good thing for politicians at whatever level to be linked into or be Directors of private businesses while they are MHK/MLCs. I know they may lose a few bob but for goodness sake the salary scale surely is good enough and they could concentrate on the day job!
Mind you Bill Henderson did say he was struggling on £50,000 a year. You remember Bill he’s the former MHK who slipped up into Legco recently and is busy restructuring the benefits system for his Treasury boss Eddie Teare MHK. I bet some of those benefits claimants cannot even imagine what its like to ‘struggle by’ on £50K!
Getting back to the Conduct of Members lets hope there are all sorts of revelations and new beginnings in the Keys and Tynwald!
Anyway sticking with the DAIL – Scottish Power Insurance issue (but forgetting the Christian connection for now) you will note the IOM Today story talks about allegations of ‘massive failures’ by Island regulators. I wonder if there were any disciplinary investigations into that or is it the case that if your high enough up the tree disciplinary sanction doesn’t reach you.
The Isle of Man where you can…indeed!
