UK TREASURY PRESSED AGAIN ON PMS SAVERS PLIGHT
The Celtic League has written to the UK Chancellor once again urging action to compensate savers in the failed Northern Ireland Presbyterian Mutual Society
(see below):
“Chancellor of the Exchequer
Rt Hon George Osborne MP
HM Treasury
Horse Guards Road
London SW1A 2HQ
26/08/10
Dear Mr Osborne,
The Celtic League AGM which was held in the Isle of Man last month (July) considered once again the plight of savers in the failed Northern Ireland Presbyterian Mutual Society (PMS). We had communicated with your predecessor
(25/05/09) and Northern Ireland authorities on this issue.
The AGM resolved that:
“Recognising the considerable financial support provided to UK corporate institutions and Banks over the past two years urges the United Kingdom to provide a similar financial support package to assist depositors in the Northern Ireland Presbyterian Mutual Society (PMS) who have suffered since that institution went into administration in 2008.”
I do hope that notwithstanding the severe fiscal restraints at present the current UK authorities will address this issue with more vigour than the
previous administration.
Yours sincerely
J B Moffatt
Director of Information”
