NEWS FROM THE CELTIC LEAGUE

Decidedly inclement November weather did not deter the wreath laying at Peel cemetery today to commemorate Sophia Morrison (see link):

As President of Mec Vannin, which has instated these commemorations of prominent contributors to Manx political and cultural life, I spoke of the tremendous legacy that the work of Sophia Morrison had left to us.

The meeting was also addressed (in Manx) by Stewart Bennett and then the wreath was laid.

Later in the afternoon at the Guild Room the celebration of prominent figures continued this time with a talk on the work on contribution of Colin Jerry given by Bob Carswell (see link):

At the outset of his talk Bob apologised saying that the manner in which he would outline Colin’s life and work might seem a bit disjointed in effect the opposite was the case and his style of presentation kept everyone immersed from the outset. It was clear a great deal of research had been undertaken by virtue of the wide range of archived documents used by Bob in his slide presentation.

Thanks to Roy Kennaugh and Cristl Jerry (of Mec Vannin) for organising the two events which as Roy pointed out in conclusion will be the first of a series remembering prominent contributors to Manx life.
